Leadership Opportunities

National Junior Beta Club - This is a National Academic Service organization that began in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Students are selected for membership on the basis of grade point average, character, and responsibility. As models of academic achievement and good character, these students take the lead in many service projects. Some of these projects and fundraisers have included the Walk for Alzheimer's, the Ronald McDonald House, the Samaritan House, the Crisis Pregnancy Center, and Fair Trade for Foreign Artisans. The Junior Beta Club has also raised money for disaster victims and helped the homeless in our community. Finally, the Junior Beta Club assists throughout the school in a variety of ways (e.g., opening day breakfast for the teachers, breakfast with Saint Nick, helping teachers move in and out of school.)

Student Senate - This is a sanctioned South Carolina Independent Schools Association (SCISA) middle school organization. The Student Senate provides peer representation for the student body by addressing and recommending action on any concerns the student body may have. The Student Senate operates using Robert's Rules of Order and Parliamentary Procedure. Emphasizing leadership and responsibility, the Senate works hand in hand with the administration and with the Junior Beta Club in many of their community service tasks. The Senate also sponsors a beverage program and a snack shack for the enjoyment of the student body, and they help organize the student dances. Many members take time from their summer vacation to attend the SCISA leadership program in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Academic Activities and Opportunities

Science Fair - Students in 3rd - 8th grades participate in the St. Anne Science Fair. Students are required to use the scientific method and experimentation rather than merely doing research or model building. The winners of the fair go on to the statewide SCISA competition in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Students frequently return with awards including first place through honorable mention.

Mock Trial - The South Carolina Bar Association sponsors this statewide competition. Student teams argue their positions to a jury judge on a prescribed trial case. Participation in Mock Trial helps build confidence and develops many skills, including public speaking, research, and debate. Students have returned from the competition with awards for best witness and best lawyer.

Quiz Bowl - Quiz bowl participants "ring in" to answer questions from a wide range of categories. Schools throughout South Carolina participate in this competition.

Math Competition - Through this competition with other area schools, students have the opportunity to apply and expand on the various math skills that are taught in Middle School.

Geography Bowl - Students compete on the basis of a test given of their competency in geography. The students are chosen for their displayed knowledge in this area.

Spelling Bee - St. Anne students participate in the state Spelling Bee competition. Students are chosen from each grade based on performance in their classroom's spelling bee.

Spiritual Leadership Opportunities

Altar Servers - These student volunteers learn the duties of serving at Mass. In addition to serving at School Mass on Wednesday, they frequently serve at funeral Masses and at their home parishes.

Student Recognition

Terrific Kids - This award is given to recognize and encourage good Christian citizenship among our students. Each month teachers choose a deserving student from each class that has shown these values in their daily behavior.

Awards Assembly - Each month St. Anne School holds an award assembly in which student awards are announced. These awards include SCISA art contests, state fair photography and art competition, VFW essay winners and many others. The "Terrific Kid" awards are given at this time. Quarterly assemblies are held in which honor roll students-- as well as students with perfect attendance-- are recognized.

School Wide Functions

Catholic Schools Week - St. Anne School celebrates our faith and the privilege of attending a Catholic School during National Catholic Schools Week. We sponsor many fun activities including "Godparents and Grandparents Day" and an annual, school-wide, grade-appropriate religious retreat.

Dances - The Junior Beta Club or the Student Senate sponsor one or two dances each year. The lower school dance begins early in the evening. After the lower school students leave, the middle school dance begins. The dances are fun for the students and help the students gain important social skills. Dance themes have included Sock Hops, Prom, and Blue and Silver Ball.

Graduations - St. Anne School holds two graduations each year. The patriotically themed kindergarten graduation is held at end of the year. This event helps to welcome students into the first grade. The eighth-grade graduation is held the last week of school and the graduates receive their diplomas and any academic awards they have earned. The students that have attended St. Anne School for their entire career are recognized and any scholarships to other schools are awarded.
